About the Mobelaris Eames collection
Charles and Ray Eames worked as a design partnership, and the pieces in this collection are joint work rather than the output of one designer.
The dining chairs trace back to the Museum of Modern Art's low-cost furniture competition of 1948, which asked for ergonomic designs that could be produced cheaply at scale. Working with a plastics manufacturer, the Eameses answered it with a single moulded shell that could sit on several different bases. That is why the dining chairs here share one seat shape and differ only below it.
The Lounge Chair 670 came later, in 1956, and was built on a different idea entirely: a traditional English club chair, reinterpreted in plywood and leather. The original used a five-layer ply with Brazilian rosewood veneer. Sustainability pressure changed that to a seven-layer ply with palisander in the 1990s, which is the specification our reproduction follows.
The EA217 office chair came last, in 1969. It is the only piece here built for a working day rather than a meal or an evening.
The collection sits alongside other work from the same period. The Bauhaus furniture range shares the same interest in industrial materials, and the Eero Saarinen collection covers the pedestal dining furniture of the same period.
Which Eames chair for which room
Dining: the DSW, DSR and DAW
The three dining chairs share one shell and differ only in the base, which is what the codes describe.
- DSW, Dining Side Wood: a splayed wooden dowel base in beech. The most recognisable version, 46.5 cm wide, and the one that tucks fully under a table.
- DSR, Dining Side Rod: a chrome steel wire base, often called the Eiffel base for its lattice. The same shell on a lighter-looking frame, 53 cm wide.
- DAW, Dining Armchair Wood: the DSW base with arms added. At 62 cm it is a third wider than the DSW, so six DAWs need roughly 3.7 metres of table edge against 2.8 metres for six DSWs.
Seat heights are not identical across the three. The DAW sits at 42 cm, the DSW at 44 cm and the DSR at 45.5 cm. Two or three centimetres is not much on its own, but it is visible when they are mixed around one table. If you want arms only at the head of the table, expect the head chairs to sit slightly lower.
For the full dining range beyond the Eames pieces, the designer dining chairs collection has the wider set.
Living rooms: the Lounge Chair 670
The 670 is the only piece here built for extended sitting. It measures 87 cm wide by 87 cm deep, swivels through 360 degrees and has a fixed 15-degree recline, so it needs clearance behind it as well as beside it.
At 29 kg it is roughly three times the weight of a dining chair. It is not a piece you reposition, so decide where it goes before it arrives. The chair ships on its own: the matching stool is sold separately and is not part of this collection.
Two versions are in the grid, one with walnut veneer from GBP 614.50 and one with rosewood veneer from GBP 619.50. The dimensions, weight and seat height are identical.
If you are comparing it against other reclining options, the modern lounge chairs collection has the broader set.
Desks: the EA217
The EA217 is the only adjustable piece in the collection. Height runs from 85.5 cm to 96.5 cm, seat height from 49 cm to 60 cm, and it tilts as well as swivelling, with a lock for a static upright position.
That adjustment range is the reason to choose it over a dining chair at a desk. A DSW or DAW will do for an hour. For a working day, the EA217 is the piece that was designed for it.

Three things the numbers show
The armchair is cheaper than the side chair. The DAW costs GBP 62.70 and the DSW GBP 79.60, despite the DAW being larger and having arms. That is a pricing quirk rather than a quality difference: both use the same shell material and the same beech base. If you want arms, they do not cost extra here.
Only two pieces are in UK stock. The DSW and DAW dispatch in 48 to 72 hours. Everything else takes 12 to 16 weeks, including the DSR at GBP 89.50 and both accessories, so a low price is not a guide to a fast delivery. If you are buying a dining set and a lounge chair together, the lounge chair sets the date.
Weight is the best proxy for whether a piece moves. At 6 to 11 kg the dining chairs are carried with one hand. At 19 kg the EA217 rolls but does not lift easily. At 29 kg the Lounge Chair is a two-person job and a decision you make once.
What is an Eames chair replica?
An Eames chair replica is a reproduction of a chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames. It is sold as a reproduction, and every Mobelaris product page states that the item is not manufactured by or affiliated with the original designers. In this collection, the chairs start from GBP 62.70.
What should I check on an Eames product page?
Look at the parts that are not the shell, and check that the product page states them. On the dining chairs, the base: beech on the DSW and DAW, chrome steel on the DSR. On the Lounge Chair, the foam: the 670 uses injected foam rather than cut-to-shape foam, which keeps the cushion fitting the shell. And check the warranty: every piece here lists five years.
How much does an Eames chair replica cost?
Dining chairs start from GBP 62.70 for the DAW and GBP 79.60 for the DSW. The EA217 office chair starts from GBP 534.50 and the Lounge Chair 670 from GBP 614.50. The DSR starts from GBP 89.50, and the accessories are lower still: the Hang It All from GBP 59.50 and the House Bird from GBP 64.50. Prices on the grid above are current and include any active sale.
What is the difference between the DSW, DSR and DAW chairs?
The shell is the same on all three. Only the base and the arms change. DSW has a splayed wooden dowel base in beech. DSR has a chrome steel wire base, often called the Eiffel base. DAW is the DSW base with arms added. Seat heights differ slightly: 42 cm on the DAW, 44 cm on the DSW and 45.5 cm on the DSR.
What is the Eames Lounge Chair 670?
The 670 is the lounge chair Charles and Ray Eames designed in 1956, reinterpreting a traditional English club chair in plywood and leather. The Mobelaris reproduction ships as the chair alone; the matching stool is sold separately. The Mobelaris reproduction measures 87 cm wide by 87 cm deep by 82 cm high, weighs 29 kg, swivels through 360 degrees and has a fixed 15-degree recline.
What are Eames replica chairs made from?
It depends on the piece. The DSW and DAW use a polypropylene shell on beech legs, and the DSR a polypropylene shell on a chrome steel base. The Lounge Chair 670 uses a seven-layer plywood veneer shell with Italian leather over injected foam, cast aluminium legs and rubber shock absorbers between the shells. The EA217 uses a cast aluminium chrome-plated frame with Italian leather and a five-star base.
Are Eames replica chairs comfortable?
The dining chairs are shaped to the body and fine for a meal, though the shell is unpadded. The Lounge Chair 670 is built for extended sitting, with a fixed 15-degree recline and injected foam under the leather. The EA217 is the one built for a full working day, with height and tilt adjustment and Italian leather cushions.
Which Eames chair should I choose for a dining room or a desk?
For dining, the DSW: beech legs, no arms, and at 46.5 cm wide it tucks fully under a table. Choose the DAW if you want arms, bearing in mind it is 62 cm wide and sits 2 cm lower. For a desk, choose the EA217 office chair rather than a dining chair. It is the only piece here with height adjustment, from 85.5 cm to 96.5 cm, plus tilt and a lockable swivel.
Why do Eames chair prices vary so much?
It comes down to the piece and its materials. In this collection the DAW dining chair starts from GBP 62.70, a moulded shell on beech legs, while the Lounge Chair 670 starts from GBP 614.50, in plywood veneer and Italian leather on a cast aluminium base. Check each product page for the base, the foam and the warranty before you choose.
How long does delivery take?
It depends on the piece, and the gap is large. The DSW and DAW are held in UK stock and dispatch within 48 to 72 hours. Everything else, including the DSR, both Lounge Chair versions, the EA217 and the two accessories, takes 12 to 16 weeks. Each product page shows its own estimate under the Add to Cart button.
