Como a muchos de nosotros, a Eero Saarinen le resultaba demasiado incómodo cenar rodeado de tantas patas, por lo que encontró la solución perfecta al diseñar la mesa de comedor redonda Tulip a mediados de la década de 1950. Dedicó cinco años a diseñar la revolucionaria colección "Tulip" para abordar el "mundo feo, confuso e inquietante" que observaba debajo de sillas y mesas, el llamado "barrio bajo de patas".
