Bevor Diskotheken erfunden wurden, war Verner Panton seiner Zeit voraus und entwarf mit der Topan VP6 Pendelleuchte eine an eine Discokugel erinnernde Leuchte. Sie wurde 1960 ursprünglich für das Hotel und Restaurant Astoria in Trondheim, Norwegen, entworfen. Als erste in Serie produzierte Lampe von Panton folgte später die ikonische Flowerpot-Lampe, doch zugleich blieb sie sein einprägsamstes Design. Die Pendelleuchte wirkt heute genauso modern wie damals.
