A sideboard is the most versatile piece of storage furniture in a living room or dining room. At 75–85 cm high — below the sight-lines of the room — it provides surface space for display while concealing its contents behind closed doors or in sliding compartments. Four of the five stand between 68 and 80 cm high. The Finn Juhl Sideboard is the exception at 90 cm, 10 cm taller than the next, so it suits a wall where the top will be used for display. It is also more than twice the width of the Finn Sideboard, the compact choice at 90 cm.

Depth varies by only 6 cm. The Lucas and Borge Sideboards are the shallowest at 40 cm, which helps where floor space is tight.

Weight does not follow width. The Lucas Sideboard is the heaviest at 96 kg, almost twice the Finn Juhl Sideboard, which is 56 cm wider. Check the weight if the piece has to go up stairs. Walnut veneer, oak veneer or solid ash: what each surface is

Three of the sideboards are walnut veneer. The Finn Juhl Sideboard is walnut veneer on powder-coated steel legs, in walnut or white versions. The Junior Sideboard is walnut veneer over plywood on a veneered wooden frame. The Lucas Sideboard is also walnut veneer over plywood, but it stands on a solid walnut base frame with a solid walnut shelf.

The Borge Sideboard is the only oak piece. It is white oak veneer throughout, legs included, and its specification gives its style as mid century.

The Finn Sideboard comes in two bodies, and the difference matters if you want real walnut. The ash version is solid American ash. The walnut version is hardwood with a walnut stain, so it has the colour of walnut but is not walnut. Each body comes with a black or white laminate top, which makes four combinations.
